Well, friend, we have news for you; weekends are for experiencing life and getting outside of your regular routine. So that’s why in this article, we’re going to take you through some of the awesome stuff you can do in Windsor, Ontario. From the land to the water, to the skies- let’s get into it!
Jackson Park
Windsor is home to many beautiful parks. But Jackson Park undoubtedly sticks out in our minds. Home to over 10,000 plants, Jackson Park, draws in hundreds of guests, made up of locals visiting regularly and tourists who want to experience a slice of that Windsor lifestyle. Jackson Park has many attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy.
A popular attraction is the formal Queen Elizabeth II Sunken Gardens. Here you can enjoy a collection of seasonal flowers. In Spring, hundreds of tulips scatter the ground, and in Summer, an array of perennials take up residence in these gardens. This is just a look into one of the many formal gardens and fountains you may come across at Jackson Park.
Jackson Park also offers its visitors lots of easy to get active with its popular and well-equipped sports park. Whether you want to rally your friends for a game of baseball, cricket, football, rugby, or soccer, you won’t be shy of space at Jackson Park. They also have several washrooms and concession stands throughout the park for your comfort and ease. There are also community spaces like the Windsor lawn bowling club and the privately owned tennis club.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park
Adventure Bay Family Water Park is a raving good time for the whole family. With over 35,000 square feet of aquatic adventures available, you and your family could easily spend an entire day here having a splashing good time.
There’s something for everyone here, of any size and age. Little ones can enjoy splashing their toes in the wave pool at the zero-depth entry end. Tots and Kindergarteners will love the splash zone with age-appropriate slides and the giant tipping bucket. Elementary kids will gladly spend a whole day on the FlowRider surf simulator and wiggling their way down one of their many, many awesome and invigorating giant water slides, such as the Python and the Whizzard. And the whole family can spend time together in the activity pool ad cruise the lazy river when they need to catch their breath. So whether your kids are 2, 12, or 42- they can still join the family for a fun-filled day at Adventure Bay Family Water Park.
Most of the time, they have a concession stand available. Just check ahead to see if it isn’t closed for the season or is under repairs. You can enjoy snacks from here, the vending machine, or bring your own from home. They just don’t allow food in the water park area, so please keep your food in the lobby.
Canada Aviation Museum
If you’re someone who wanders around with their head constantly in the sky, you’re going to have a ball of a day at the Canada Aviation Museum! This engaging museum has an impressive collection of airplanes, airplane parts, and aviation memorabilia that tell the story of Canada’s relationship and history of flight.
At the Canada Aviation Museum, you can view the Lancaster bomber and Mosquito bomber KB161. As fitting as it would be, they are located just West of the Windsor International Airport at hangar #7. This hangar was initially constructed in 1940 to become the Elementary Flying Training School as part of the British’s plan to get the Commonwealth trained in Air flight.
The Windsor Sculpture Park
The Windsor Sculpture Park is a vast outdoor park, open and free to the public all year long. Many visitors will walk or ride through the park, but there is also a car park available within the park for those for wish to drive, park, and then stroll to take in the park scenes. The interesting thing about The Windsor Sculpture Park is that its original design concept was not to create a park but to create an experience that was received more as a museum without walls. Throughout the park, you will find 31 large-scale contemporary sculptures made by several world-renowned artists.
The location of The Windsor Sculpture Park mainly runs along the shores of the Detroit River. But you will also find sculptures from this park within the Ambassador and Centennial Parks, the Art Gallery of Windsor, and other areas around the city.
Another interesting thing about this collection of public artwork is that it doesn’t conform to one (or even two) artistic styles. Instead, due to the broad spectrum of artists involved in this project, such as Pauta Saila, Joe Rosenthal, and Elisabeth Frink, you can see their unique styles reflected in their pieces.
