Mid-Way Switch
You can have multiple reasons why you want to change. If you find another agent with the qualities you wish your current agent has, then that could be a good reason. No matter what, there will be some form of conflict, but you can make it easier.
As long as you’re not signed to any agreement, you are free to switch or leave any time. No agent owns you or has any claims on you. However, if you do want to change but have already signed an agreement, here’s what you can do.
1 – Read the Contract

2 – Be Diplomatic
Even if you angrily list out all your issues against the agent, write it down professionally, and acknowledge that your needs weren’t met. Any right-minded agent will agree that it is best that you both part ways, especially when the problems have been noticeable for some time. Be honest, straightforward, and maintain the spirit of friendliness. Who knows, you might be working together again for something else.
An excellent agent can even suggest other agents that might fit your criteria. If the agent is part of a firm, you can ask to continue working with the firm, only that you want to work with a different agent. If you’re parting on good terms, you can ask for their colleagues. This way, you keep your relationship with the whole firm. However, if you don’t want to get specific, thank the agent and tell them that you chose a new agent.
3 – Write a Letter
After informing your agent that you want to end the contract, write a letter. This letter will protect you from paying any commission if a problem comes up after the termination. In the letter, write why you want to end the contract. This will make sure that the agent won’t continue looking for properties for you.
